Computer Proficiency Form


All learners will need to have a basic knowledge of computers in order to be successful in their classes. Our goal with this form is to identify students who might need some extra help at the beginning of their program.

In order to work effectively in the LBC online learning management system (Canvas), every student needs to be proficient at the following computing skills:

  • Ability to navigate the computer utilizing keyboard and mouse
  • Have a basic knowledge of the computer operating system (Windows, MacOS, Linux)
  • Ability to use software and tools such as a word processor, email, Internet browser, search engine
  • Ability to "Cut and Paste" information across/within programs
  • Ability to upload assignments to a web-based Learning Management System
I am comfortable using a computer as described above*

We encourage you to take the following proficiency test to identify which areas of training may be helpful to ensure you are successful in your course.

There are seven module tests available. We ask that you take test #2. A score of 80 or higher is recommended for taking LBC courses.

Internet Access to LBC Online Courses

You will need to have Internet access to the following either at home, in your business office, or at your local library.

  • High-speed internet access is strongly recommended to access a web-based Learning Management System
  • You will be issued an LBC e-mail and a Learning Management System account (Canvas) that you will use to access your courses.

Computer and Web Browser Setup

  • Google Chrome is preferred, but Internet Explorer and most other web browsers will work.
  • Tablets and smart phones have limited functionality and may not be suitable for certain courses.
  • You may need the most recent versions of Adobe Reader and Adobe Flash (available for free) for your browser in order to record video and audio directly in Canvas
  • Most Windows or Mac-based computer systems are acceptable. Most public PCs are setup to be fully functional to access LBC's courses.
  • If you are not using Google Chrome, these standard plug-ins are needed for LBC courses:
  • Audio: any form of audio output through speakers or headphones will work well
